China Fisheries and Seafood Expo – October 2025

Tasmania maintains a strong trading relationship with China, particularly in the seafood sector. This is driven by the island’s reputation for high-quality, clean, and sustainable marine products. With pristine waters and strict environmental standards, Tasmanian seafood is highly sought after by Chinese consumers, who are looking for fresh and responsibly sourced products.

China remains Tasmania’s largest goods export market, accounting for 32.5 per cent of the state’s total exports as of January 2025. It is also Tasmania’s top seafood export destination, with significant trade in rock lobster, salmon and abalone. Over the past year, seafood exports to China have grown by $45.18 million, highlighting the continued demand for Tasmania’s premium offerings.

The China Fisheries and Seafood Expo (CFSE), took place in Qingdao from 29 to 31 October 2025, presenting a valuable opportunity for Tasmanian seafood businesses. Trade Tasmania hosted a TASMANIAN stand at the event, providing a platform to:

  • strengthen market presence and brand recognition in the region
  • connect with key buyers, distributors, and industry leaders, expanding business networks and securing new trade deals
  • gain insights into market trends, regulatory changes, and consumer preferences, ensuring businesses remain competitive and adaptable.
