Advanced Manufacturing
The manufacturing industry is vital to Tasmania’s economy. Around 20,000 Tasmanians are directly employed in manufacturing, and over 33,000 more through flow on effects.
The sector is facing rapidly evolving technologies, challenges and opportunities as the sector moves to a more automated, cleaner and technology focused future. The Tasmanian Government recognises the importance of a robust and progressive manufacturing sector and is proud to put its support behind Tasmania’s advanced manufacturers.
Advanced manufacturers are manufacturing businesses that:
- Utilise continuous improvement, enhanced skills, new technologies, and design and systems integration to drive innovation and growth throughout the value chain.
- Ensure that customers receive the best quality, cost, and delivery (QCD) in products and services.
- Aim to deliver high value, niche and customised premium products and services.
AMAP 2028 is the Tasmanian Government’s third successive action plan for the sector. The actions identified in this document will allow government to address the challenges and opportunities that arise in the sector, by working with manufacturers and their supporting organisations.
AMAP 2028 features a range of actions under three priority areas:
- People - Attracting and developing a workforce skilled for the manufacturing careers of today and the future.
- Productivity - Pursuing excellence and driving productivity improvements across Tasmania’s manufacturing industry
- Market Success - Connecting Tasmanian manufacturers with domestic and global opportunities.
