Members, Theatre Royal Management Board

Bring your experience, energy and creativity to Tasmania’s living centre for the performing arts.

Overview

The Theatre Royal first opened its doors in 1837, making it Australia’s oldest working theatre. Countless leading figures of Australian and international theatre, dance and music have graced the Theatre Royal’s stage including Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward, Vivien Leigh, Peter Ustinov and Ruth Cracknell. Today, the Theatre Royal is a living centre for the performing arts with an annual curated program of contemporary performance and events. Since 2020, the Theatre Royal has occupied The Hedberg, a world class performing arts precinct in the heart of Hobart, Tasmania. The facility is shared with the University of Tasmania and was the result of a collaborative partnership between the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, the University of Tasmania, and the Theatre Royal.
