Defence Advocate

The Tasmanian Defence Advocate works closely with the Department of Defence, major defence contractors, the state government and local defence capable businesses to help to identify and capitalise on opportunities for our state deliver domestic and export defence capabilities.

Michelle Campbell AM was appointed as Tasmanian Defence Industry Advocate in May 2026. Michelle brings to the role 30 years of leadership across defence, government, consulting as well as national & international enterprises. She has previously held senior executive roles in the Victorian State Government and the private sector.

In addition, Michelle is an Active Reserve Major General in the Australian Defence Force. Her current appointment is Head of Reserve and Cadet Support Division in the Military Personnel Organisation. Previously, she served as Commander of the 4th Brigade (Victoria and Tasmania) in the Australian Army.
