Project Assurance Framework

Building Tasmania (ITas) administers the project assurance framework for the Tasmanian Government.

Departments have been encouraged to use the project assurance framework since 2022. The government has now mandated the framework for all infrastructure and capital work projects that are:

  • valued above $50 million delivered by Tasmanian Government agencies
  • valued between $10 million and $50 million that are referred for an independent review by the Budget Committee, portfolio Ministers or Heads of Agency.

ITas is also working to implement the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to mandate the project assurance framework for all infrastructure and capital work projects valued above $200 million across government, including GBEs.

Project assurance is an independent review, not an audit. A panel of specialists assesses a project and provides recommendations through a series of document reviews, interviews and reports. Project assurance provides practical advice, reduces risk and helps to ensure successful delivery. It is considered best practice throughout Australia and the world.
